Re-Entry Court “Going Home Early” Court
Mission: To offer serious juvenile offenders an opportunity for early release from the Rhode Island Training School when they agree – voluntarily – to regular reviews (usually twice monthly) by a Re-entry Court magistrate (or hearing officer) and the supervision of Juvenile Probation and Parole for the remainder of their sentences. This federally-funded, problem-solving court operates as the latest non-adversarial forum of the Family Court (similar to Drug Court and Truancy Court).
Major Objective: The major objective of the “Going Home Early” Court is to reduce recidivism and to curb juvenile crime.
Description: The “Going Home Early” Court provides serious juvenile offenders with sufficient structure, community resources and oversight to warrant early release and re-integration into their communities. Participants and/or the training school may request “Going Home Early” consideration at any point in the post-adjudication process, including sentencing.
